Burn the Fat Feed The Muscle: An Up-Close Look at How Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle Compares

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

By Rob Jacobs Lifetime bodybuilder and fitness coach, Tom Venuto created quite a stir recently when he released his ebook, Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle. Whether you havent heard of it or you have and youre just on the fence about buying it, heres how this book stacks up to the others. Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle actually places more emphasis on dieting, rather than exercise, although hard-core fitness people will combine it with a full workout plan. This book shows you how to seriously trim down your body fat levels (down to single digit percentages) through just eating right. It teaches additional tactics that show how to lose the fat permanently, rather than struggle with yo-yo dieting. A fair book to compare Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle to , I think, is Bill Philips Body for Life because this is another main-stream weight loss and fitness book that focuses more on the dieting aspect. I bought into the Body for Life craze back in 2002 or so as well, and found the nutrition info to be VERY sketchy. This was confirmed by many others I spoke to about it as well. This is one of the first dieting books to hit the mass market that covered the new approach of Eat smaller meals a day, more often. But as youll learn in Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle, there is more to it than that. In Body for Life, the author recommends that you drink 3 of his expensive aspartame-based milkshakes a day, combined with meals. He sells them on his website, which is printed on EVERY page of the book. He also mocks you in his book by writing You dont necessarily need my shakes, especially if you have time to cook 6 nutritious meals a day as if you cant do that. Philips promotes supplements as well, which get pretty expensive on his site. Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle is a completely all-natural plan, period. There are no supplements (actually, Venuto doesnt recommend any, and explains why 97% are junk) or proprietary milkshakes to order. He tells you where to go in your grocery store, and thats all the product-pushing you get. He explains his detailed, but easy to follow meal timing program, that you wont see anywhere else that kick-starts your metabolism a lot better than the smiling face, bookstore cover guys do. Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle talks about how to amplify the results of your cardio workouts. I read this over and cannot say Ive seen this before in any other diet book. He mentions the 12 best foods you should always eat, at any time, and the worst foods you should never touch. Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle covers the good fats that are essential to excess fat-burning that will actually increase your energy levels. The book also covers where to look on nutrition labels so you know youre not getting the half-truth about what youre buying. So if I had to choose, the clear answer is Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle, and compared to the hype of the mainstream diet and fitness books that dont really tell you anything, Id have to say Tom Venutos book wins out hands-down. If you havent bought the hyped up ones or Toms book, save yourself the $40 and the bookshelf space and just download Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle today. Hoodia: It’s Given Us Something To Talk About!

Monday, July 30th, 2007

By Patricia Zelkovsky Well, its official! Hoodia Gordonii has been rated #1 among dieters and other well known personalities. It is the hottest product currently being sold on the internet today. However, the supply may not meet the demand, and there is a possibility the cactus plant from which Hoodia is derived, may soon be depleted. More about this later For more than 2 years, Hoodia became well known in the public domain. Television program such as news and talk shows pronounced it as being the new weight loss wonder! If you still have not heard of Hoodia, and do not really know what it is, lets review it once again. Hoodia is a cactus-like succulent. The Hoodia plant that has recently been associated with weight loss potential is Hoodia Gordonii, one of a large group of succulent plants called Asclepiadaceae. Grown in the Kalahari Desert in Africa, Hoodia Gordonii has been around for thousands of years. It thrives in very high temperatures, but it also takes many years to mature. Consumed mostly by the Bushmen, who live in the same region, Hoodia has been used as an appetite suppressant among the tribe. After it was discovered that Hoodia contained appetite suppressant properties, it became an instant hit here and abroad. Hoodia Gordonii has the ability to: curb your appetite almost immediately, after taking only a few milligrams; give you control over your appetite, being the most effective natural appetite suppressant ever found; will make you feel great because of its natural mood enhancer; will help you to lose weight by not over-eating; and is 100% natural with proven results that will work for you. In a society that is currently dealing with an obesity pandemic, you can certainly understand why Hoodia is flying off the shelves. Those who have trouble controlling their eating urges may have a close ally in Hoodia Gordonii. If a dose of the plant can suppress their desire to eat, then surely they will find it easier to cut back on caloric intake, right? Having explained its origin and effectiveness, lets return back to the supply and demand issue. Because this is an important weight loss find, it is important to relay the facts as we know it. Here is an excerpt from HoodiaAdvice.com: In 1996 the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in South Africa was doing a study of indigenous foods that the Bushmen ate. Part of the study was to test for toxic effects of any plants that were consumed by the Bushmen. When they came to Hoodia Gordonii, not only was it non-toxic - it helped animals lose weight. They found when they fed hoodia to animals, the animals lost weight. By 1997, the CSIR isolated the bioactive compound in Hoodia responsible for appetite suppression and obtained a patent. The patent was licensed to Phytopharm and they named the molecule - P57 (because it was the 57th product they spent money on). At first - nothing! Turns out the CSIR told Phytopharm that the tribe which discovered the Hoodia Gordonii plant had died out and therefore no royalties were due. However, as Mark Twain might say - “tales of the Bushmen’s death were greatly exaggerated”. When the Bushmen got word that Phytopharm stood to make billions of dollars off their knowledge about the hoodia gordonii plant they were not happy. Roger Chennells, a lawyer in South Africa who represents the Bushmen, was quick to apply strong legal, moral and political pressure on both the CSIR and Phytopharm. Chennells pointed out to anyone who would listen that the taking of traditional knowledge without compensation was “bio-piracy” and must be stopped. In what is seen as a landmark case, Chennells was able to convince the CSIR and Phytopharm to compensate the Bushmen. Now, any company that legally harvests hoodia gordonii from the Kalahari Desert must pay royalties back to the Bushmen. Not only is this fair and just, it also provides an excellent way to check if the hoodia you buy is legitimate. If the company that makes the hoodia is NOT paying royalties to the Bushmen, you do NOT have a legitimate hoodia gordonii product. In December 2004, it was announced that Unilever had entered a deal to market Hoodia Gordonii in its diet food product line. Therefore, rather than producing diet drugs, it looks like Phytopharm and Unilever will product diet supplements and diet foods with hoodia. The first Unilever products will not be out until 2008. Unilever is a huge company that goes through a very lengthy process before it brings any new food supplements to the market. In addition, Phytopharm is busy stockpiling Hoodia Gordonii from the Kalahari Desert so they will have enough supply to meet Unilever’s demands and this will take a few years of growing hoodia. Currently, you can buy hoodia gordonii from numerous companies that have no affiliation with Phytopharm. As long as they do not advertise P57 or state they are selling the hoodia for weight loss applications, they appear to be clear of the Phytopharm patent. We do believe Phytopharm will bring a number of lawsuits to test how wide their patent will be interpreted. So, between now and 2008 you have a wide open hoodia market. The media has created a great deal of hype about the hoodia plant, but the biggest player in the hoodia game - Phytopharm - will be on the sidelines until about 2008. Math Anxiety - Is Math Teaching in Conflict with Math Learning? The Second Article of Three

Sunday, July 29th, 2007

By Ann LaRoche What is it about math that causes such pain and anxiety, turmoil and fighting, tears and anger? Is it math or is it the method that we employ to teach math to our children? Personally, I dont think it is math. People have been learning math for hundreds of year. Math anxiety is a recent phenomenon, like in the last 50 years. Were into the second generation of math anxiety. So lets look at the method we use to teach math. I have found that the standard approach to teaching math today is equivalent to teaching reading by first studying grammar, spelling and phonetic before you ever read a story. If we did this to teach reading, no one would ever want to learn how to read. So why do we teach math this way? Why is our approach to math rigid and artificial? I dont know! Our schools preach that there is only one way to learn math. That is their way, which also happens to be the latest and greatest New Math. New math, of course, is just the latest approach to teaching math. Math is as old as the hills and is the same as it was in the beginning. They say This is the best way for all students to learn math. Thats not true. In real life, children learn in a variety of ways. In real life, children learn at different rates. Solving problems using numbers can be and should be approached from the individual childs learning preference. If they can be flexible in teaching reading, why cant they be flexible in teaching math? Is being flexible in how we teach math practical? Most teachers, especially in the elementary grades, dont have the time for multiple approaches and multiple skill levels. Many teachers dont have the expertise in math for multiple approaches because it is not required in order to teach elementary school. Some even have anxiety about teaching math. Theyre given an instruction manual and an answer sheet and are told to teach. Many teachers dont even have the insight to see the value in wrong answers. Instead the answers are marked wrong with no investigation as to why. This is a lost opportunity! Wrong answers can lead to a deeper understanding of the material. Wrong answers are an opportunity to analyze the childs thinking processes. Instead, the teachers give lots and lots of worksheets, thinking the more the students do, the more theyll learn. Its no wonder our children are either bored or confused. Is this our teachers fault? No! I blame our school system. Im not saying all elementary school teachers are bad at math. Some are proficient in math, but not all. I have a great respect for teachers. None the less, how many teachers does it take over eight years to give a child the impression that hes no good in math? How many encounters does it take over eight years, 180 days per year? I can tell you from personal experience; it only takes one teacher in one instant to set this notion in a childs head. In this instant, the teacher was not even aware of the damage he did. Belief is a powerful thing. Negative belief is more powerful than positive belief. For my child, it was a fourth grade fractions test where she got most of the answers wrong. Except that they were not really wrong. She did the fraction calculations correctly. She just forgot to simplify the fraction. No one told her that. She thought she had done the fraction calculating wrong. In an instant, her confidence in math was shaken. On the extremes, I have seen children bored to death in math while others struggle to understand. Why are the schools making everyone repeat the same lesson when only a few dont get it yet? You can be sure that those who still are not grasping the concept are feeling pressured to learn it. They are beginning to believe that they will never get it. Doing worksheet after worksheet is not helping them. And the other children are tired of doing worksheet after worksheet. Give everyone a break. Let the children who understand the concept move on to the next concept. Once I asked my childs teacher to challenge her in math. This was a big mistake. All my child got was a larger stack of worksheets. Its no wonder that our children hate math on both extremes. Math is a process of discovery. I see learning math as a series of Aha moments. You struggle, struggle, struggle, then all of a sudden you get it and you wonder why you did not see it before. Then you practice the new skill, just long enough to know youve got it. Then you move on. You work at your own pace with an approach to math that works best for you. Thats the ideal way to learn math. Thats how math should be taught. In addition, children should be given something real to practice their math skills on, a real life situation that involves using math. This should not be that hard to do. After all math is practical. It is all around us. Play a game of Scrabble and discover the math involved to win. Dont let math work or tests be put aside without analyzing those wrong answers. Approach the wrong answers from a view of discovery, not ‘we are going to straighten out your wrong thinking.’ Youll be amazed at what you will discover about your child if you let your child show you how he got those wrong answers. Have fun with math. Math is basic. Everyone can do Math! Making the Switch to a Pharmaceutical Sales Career

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

By Ryan Stewart The pharmaceutical industry is one of the most lucrative business sectors as evidenced by its $550 billion global industry revenue in 2004. As such, many careers have been developed to cater to the varying needs of the industry. One good example of such a career option is pharmaceutical sales, which is believed to be one of the most sought-after careers in the job market today. The reason behind this trend is that pharmaceutical sales offers extraordinary salary potential, which may go as high as six-figures annually. Other amazing perks are special bonuses, a company car, trainings in exotic locations, flexible work hours, as well as unlimited opportunities for career growth. Needless to say, many people who already have a career in sales are slowly but surely transitioning into pharmaceutical sales. If you’re one of those people who are ready to take your sales career to the next level, there are a variety ways to do just that. For starters, educating yourself about the pharmaceutical industry is an important first step. Learn about various pharmaceutical companies, especially the biggest and most successful ones and how the entire industry is doing. It’s also important to keep yourself updated on industry trends. In addition, equip yourself so that potential employers may notice you. As mentioned earlier, pharmaceutical sales positions are so in demand these days that you have to truly stand out among other hopefuls. To address this concern, there are online companies today, which through their websites are offering products and services that aim to help prospective pharmaceutical sales reps with or without sales experience to land a job in the field. Such products and services may include how-to e-Books and other information materials, resume writing and evaluation services so that your resume is specific to and targeted towards the pharmaceutical sales industry, and more. They also offer interview coaching, which may include doing mock interviews to help you develop the confidence and to ensure that you know the right things to say. It would also be a good idea to begin establishing networks with other pharmaceutical industry professionals, particularly in your area. The reason behind this is that job openings are oftentimes filled through referrals from existing pharmaceutical sales reps and that pharmaceutical companies rarely post job ads, except for those which are relatively harder to fill. As such, you definitely would want to be in that loop. Lastly, different companies have different requirements some require their pharmaceutical sales reps to at least have a bachelor’s degree, others may require an MBA. But in the end, having a smooth transition to pharmaceutical sales boils down to having the right attitude. For instance, one should have an aptitude for science so that learning would be a breeze. More than having the sales or the medical background, equally important is displaying your outstanding interpersonal communication skills. An aspiring pharmaceutical sales rep should be able to relate to different types of people. Also, an aspiring pharmaceutical sales rep should be an aggressive, motivated and driven self-starter with high achievement goals. This is especially important once you’ve actually got the job. Otherwise, it would be very difficult to succeed. Needless to say, pharmaceutical sales is one career option where the saying you reap what you sow is very, very true. Pure Bee Pollen

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

By Jean Helmet Pure bee pollen is todays answer for our present day culture of consuming all kinds of incomplete foods packed with added chemicals which in turn, expose us to severe physiological problems as various as they are in volume. Pure bee pollen is good for us in the way that an organism weakened by a deficient dietary regimen becomes more subject to infections and other serious disorders. Nutritional deficiencies and the breakdown of internal chemical balance generate the perfect breeding ground for diseases for which pure bee pollen has the potential to work miracles. What Is In Pure Bee Pollen? Pure bee pollen has been used for centuries by civilizations around the world to treat a variety of disorders and medical conditions. Pure bee pollen is a versatile substance that in some forms can be applied externally to the skin or ingested as a food supplement. Pure bee pollen is known to be the best health food known to man as it contains every essential nutrient known to man. Pure bee pollen is packed with essential amino acids; in fact over twenty two amino acids have be known to be found in pure bee pollen. As well pure bee pollen is packed with vitamins, all vitamins known to man and minerals. As a matter of fact, it seems that pure bee pollen may be our only defense for our bodies to help keep up with our fast paced lifestyles of today. What is Made from Pure Bee Pollen There are a number of products derived from pure bee pollen. To mention a few it would include shampoos, as well as raw honey that can be used in cooking. No heat cooking of course because heat renders the active ingredients in pure bee pollen useless. In fact, it renders the pure bee pollen as a dead food containing hardly any nutrients. Tablets, capsules, royal jelly, ointments and granules are just a few examples of the products you can purchase as pure bee pollen supplements and products. Always check that the supplier that is manufacturing the product you wish to consume is not being collected from a dirty source. A dirty source of collecting pure bee pollen would be a highly industrialized area or highly populated area where the uses of fertilizers and pesticides can be found in the finished product. Some contaminants found in the end products of pure bee pollen have even been known to contain heavy metals. The product we personally use, located in the pristine source of New Zealand, is the most natural bee pollen source we have come across - http://www.bee-health-product.com We have been using this supplement for over 3 years with excellent health results. Shake Hands and Call it a Year

Monday, July 16th, 2007

By Kevin Strong I made it. This graying heap of miserliness managed to survive yet another horribly happy holiday season without having to sing songs about some red-nosed freak of nature or some cute baby born in a cold barn to poor parents. Good old Captain Bob managed to slide right through the happy holidays relatively unscathed. The only battle wounds sustained occurred during a visit to my lady friends mother at the Golden Sun Senior Retirement Community. While visiting the old hag, we noticed that Frank and Dottie Henderson had forgotten that clothing was required in the common areas. I wont bore you with the details but will advise you against confronting an elderly naked man about the importance of an occasional mirror check. Despite the unfortunate encounter, a fairly decent month was had. I noticed though that many people were not so fortunate. I witnessed countless couples arguing in store aisles about things like the color of spatulas and how much should be spent on the mother-in-law. Nearly everyone I passed in the world throughout the month of December looked stressed, sleep-deprived and grumpy. Romance, Im sorry to admit, does not thrive in a sleep-deprived and grumpy environment. Life is hard. Life is harder in December. We must remember this when speaking to and interacting with others, especially those we love. My lady friend and I make a pact every year in late November. We agree that our relationship will not be based on our actions or words during the month of December. Every year we shake hands and agree that the year, for romance and relationship purposes, ends with November. We realize that the holidays are stressful and that our moods are often altered as a result. Such agreements allow couples breathing room while offering support. When each partner understands that some flexibility is allowed, tensions and tempers seem to ease. Remember that the color of spatulas is not of great importance in the grand scheme of life and that the mother-in-law probably wont care if she receives a $20 gift instead of a $40 one. Let the little stuff go for a month and emerge a happy and romantically healthy couple in January things always look better in January. Well folks, theres my advice. Steer clear of elderly naked men and in late November, shake hands with your partner and call it a year. How to Handle Inter-faith Marriages

Saturday, July 14th, 2007

By Amy Spade Youll know long before you start the wedding plans if your faiths are different from one anotherso this shouldnt be a shock. And you may have already begun how you want to deal with this. It doesnt have to be a problem; rather, it can be a great way to create a new ceremony for the both of you. Deciding to convert Before deciding to convert to one religion or another, you want to take your time to discover why youre doing it. Do you truly want to convert to another religion or do you just want to make your spouses family happy? This is a very honest discussion to have with your self and there arent any good answers, except for the ones that are true. If you feel that converting is a good decision for you, then by all means, go ahead and take the steps needed. Many times, youll have to take classes and speak with the religious head well in advance of any wedding plans. The trick is not to feel pressured into converting. And with all of the emotions attached with a wedding, some families may have trouble accepting someone of a different faith. If you believe that you want to remain the faith that you are, you should do so. And if your spouse is trying to coax you into converting, you may want to hold off on the wedding as well. This is a very personal choice, and it needs to be made by the individual, not everyone else. A dual faith wedding Its actually very easy to have a wedding that incorporates two different faiths. Sit down and see what each faith requires at the wedding and then talk about how you can compromise to make sure all is proper. You may want to have the wedding in a non-denominational setting so that you dont have the home court advantage for one faith or another. You may also decide to have two different ceremonies weaving in and out of one another, combing elements of both faiths. This really shows the commitment to each other and to the separate faiths. You may also want to have two different ministers or one denominational. Thats up to you, but if youre a part of a temple or a church, you may need to be married by one of the parishs priests or synagogues rabbis.
