8 ValuableTips On How To Survive a Dumping

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

By Billy Baker Unfortunately there is no magic formula for surviving a dumping. However, to find someone you want to spend your life with, you have to move on and plan a realistic time scale to move forward. Dating tips are just that, as everyone is an individual, and what works for one does not work for another. However there are fairly standard steps you can devise to succeed. There is no reason that you have to spend the rest of your life going out on your own, and eating solitary TV dinners. 1. DON’T TAKE IT PERSONALLY You may have been dropped, but it may not be your fault. You may have a holistic approach to your emotional life, but maybe your date did not. Even if you accept that the break up is coming, it still hurts, it is traumatic. Age is not a great help here, it is always difficult to accept rejection. 2. WALLOW AND GRIEVE FOR YOUR LOSS Accept the fact that the first couple of days are the hardest mentally and that once you have survived that you are on a roll to picking yourself up, and dusting yourself and getting back into the fray. If you feel like bawling your eyes out, and eating buckets of cookies, that’s O. K. for a couple of days. If you need to get help and support from your friends then ask them to help. The most damaging thing that you can do to your self esteem is to go back and contact your ex. That means e- mail, text and telephone, try and let it go. You are trying to pick yourself up to start again, there is no point in going back. You have to try and bury it with dignity, and whatever you have to do to achieve that, then go for it. If it means moping around, then mope. If it means having a makeover, then do it. 3. BURY ANY EVIDENCE OF YOUR EX Whilst you are feeling annoyed, angry or disgruntled, and let down, destroy any painful reminders of your ex, such as photos. Try not to listen to music that meant something to both of you, it is OK to wallow in your grief, but do not rub salt in an open wound. This does not mean that you will never listen to that music again, you may even speak to your ex again, but give yourself an even money chance to heal now. 4. MAKE A LIST Where you have taken down the photographs of your ex, replace it with a list. Draw up a list of the things, that really annoyed you about your ex. NoI don’t believe you - there has to be something!, if you are thinking he/she was perfect, you are idealizing him. The more humorous this list is the better you will feel, give yourself a laugh even if only through a veil of tears. Part of the pain of being dumped is that it is something that is outside your control, you may accept that the relationship was pear shaped, and maybe you wanted to end it, but being dumped meant someone else did it to you. You will survive this, focus on the bad things, and try and accept that you perhaps should have wanted out anyway. There are occasions when you think that everything was hunky dorey, and it comes a bolt out of the blue. That is tougher to accept, but accept it you must. Strange things happen in life, but there is no way that you can make someone love you. The reasons people fall in love are as diverse as the people who do it, butthere is no way you can make someone do so. If you have done this then attempt to learn a valuable lesson, don’t invest time in going down that road in the future. 5. SURVIVE THE FIRST WEEK Right you have managed the first couple of days and you are now thinking what next. Find the hope levels inside you, underneath the layers we all have different hope levels. When Pandora opened the box, all the evil in the world came out, but left inside the box was hope. It is our ultimate defence that we believe that a situation will get better. If you are struggling to find hope then dig down deeper. Hope stops you wallowing in your own misery, if you need to mope, do it in the early on, and then set a time limit. Wallowing for too long a period of time, makes you feel worse, and reduces your self esteem. Set realistic time limits to move on as fast as possible. Yes I know it hurts, we all know that because it has happened to every single one of us at sometime or another. If youstill have a desperate need to wallow then say to yourself - yes I can every day from say 3.00. P.M. - 3.30 P.M., but focus on getting your head back together in the remaining times of the day. Force yourself to get out although it may be the last thing on the planet that you feel like doing. Try exercising during the week, and see how much better you feel afterwards. 6. PAMPER YOURSELF AND BOOST YOUR CONFIDENCE You have been through the mangle, but don’t let yourself be destroyed. Think about all the things that make you a unique person, as well as the reasons why you deserve to be loved in your own right. Everyone has the right to be loved, so don’t lose the sight of this fact. Have a manicure and a pedicure, go and getsome retail therapy and enjoy yourself. Even if you are a guy buy yourself something that you have been wanting for ages. Go on treat yourself. Make yourself feel important and valued as a person. 7. GET BACK IN THE DATING ARENA After a month your psyche should be starting to heal, think about your gaols, what do you want out of dating, and make it happen.(at least in terms of dates rather than a long term relationship. 8. ENJOY YOURSELF Don’t start taking dating too seriously, it is meant to be fun not a sophisticated type of torture. Understanding Your Options

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Paul_Pratt]Paul Pratt The financing world can be intimidating for most. By understanding the different types of loans available, you will not only have more confidence going into the deal, but more importantly you will get the loan that is perfectly suited to your needs. FINANCING OPTIONS There are numerous financing options available. The following are loan programs most commonly used by MYreiTEAM’s group of investors: Unsecured loans: Unsecured loans do not require collateral (for example, credit cards). Conventional loans: These are loans given by conventional lenders that require no government guarantees or insurances. These loans include your common fixed-rate mortgages, ARMs, and fully amortized and interest-only loans. Government loans: Government loans such as FHA, VA, and FSA provide financing more easily for first-time home buyers with smaller down payments and lower income requirements. Lenders are able to provide these loan programs due to the insurance that the government provides. The government guarantees a certain amount of payment to the lender of these loans if the borrower were to default. Seller financing: Seller financing is when a seller allows the buyer to make payments to him for the purchase of a property rather than requiring the buyer to obtain bank financing to pay him in full at close. “Subject to” loan: When a seller sells his property without paying off his existing financing, the buyer purchases the property subject to the existing financing. The buyer makes his payment to the seller, and the seller continues to make his to the lender. Construction loan: Construction loans provide the financing the borrower needs to build a property. Home Improvement Loan: Home improvement loans are equity loans that the lender grants for the purpose of home repair or remodeling. Commercial Loans: These loans provide financing for commercial property. Commercial properties are properties used for places of business that are zoned for commercial use or residential properties with five or more units. Lease Option: A lease option is when a seller leases his property to a prospective buyer with the right to purchase it at a later date for a predetermined price. HELOCs: Home Equity Lines of Credit are revolving loans that are secured by the equity in the borrowers property. A revolving loan allows the borrower to re-borrow the funds that he has paid off. Home Equity Loan: A home equity loan is secured by the equity in a borrowers home. Home equity loans, with regards to lien priority, can be in first position, second position, third position and so on. 80/20: An 80/20 loan is where the buyer obtains two loans at the same time to finance one property: an 80-percent first mortgage and a 20-percent second mortgage. Hard Money: Hard money lenders dont usually have the same strict qualification guidelines that traditional lenders do. However, they charge enormous fees and interest rates. Assumable: Assumable loans are loans that permit the borrower to take over the existing financing on a property rather than taking out a new loan. There are two types of assumable loans: freely assumable and qualified assumable. Freely assumable loans are very rare. They do not require that the buyer go through any qualification screening to take over the loan. However, the seller, or original borrower of the loan, is responsible if the buyer who assumes the loan defaults. A qualified assumable loan requires that the buyer go through the same qualification requirements that he would have to in acquiring new financing. Once qualified, the loan is put in the buyers name, and the seller is removed from any further obligation to it. Private Money: Private money lenders are individuals who are willing to lend their own personal money. Portfolio Loan: These are loans that do not meet the purchase requirements of the secondary market. Lenders who are willing to create these loans are a jewel for an investor. Because the lender isnt going to sell the loan, he doesnt have to abide by secondary market criteria. Often the lender will custom tailor the loan to fit the investors needs. Simultaneous Closing: A simultaneous closing is when a buyer closes on a property he has agreed to purchase and then closes on the resale of that property to another buyer for a profit, all in the same sitting. Assigning Contracts: When a contract lists the buyer’s name or Assignee as the purchaser, this gives the buyer the right to assign the contract to another buyer. Investors can turn profits assigning contracts to other investors for a profit. Healing Reiki

Monday, October 29th, 2007

By Jennifer Bailey Healing Reiki is a natural therapy that gently balances life energies and brings health and well being to the recipient. This healing system works with the higher self of the receiver to promote health. Health, according to healing Reiki is a state of balance of energies in the body. This therapy is simple and non-invasive. It works with the goal of promoting the well being of the entire physical, emotional and psychic body. This means disease is a representation of some imbalance of energies that has taken place in the body. The science of Reiki works under the principle that whenever there is a disease, some flow of energy is disrupted weakened or blocked. This brings energy imbalances in the form of emotional or health problems. Imbalances can be caused from many situations such as emotional or physical trauma, injury or negative thoughts and feelings. Nutritional depletion or a destructive lifestyle can also cause energy imbalances and diseases. Reiki brings several healing benefits. First and foremost, it releases stress and tension from the body. This results in reduction of blood pressure and aids in sleep. It also improves the self-healing abilities of the body. Reiki is also useful in getting rid of acute injuries and chronic problems such as asthma, eczema and headaches. This art therapy can also be used in treating addiction. The transfer of energy leads to balance and harmony in the body and adjusts the energy flow. This in turn removes blockages (if any) and adjusts the energy flow of endocrine glands. It further assists the body in cleaning itself from toxins. Reiki also supports the immune system of the body. This delays the changes caused by the aging process. Reiki therapy leads to a balance in the body and cures all the imbalances or diseases. The world of Reiki opens energy channels and allows the body to deal properly and naturally with stress, anxiety and depression. It is believed that the art of Reiki, when practiced for a long time can rid humanity of diseases. Reiki provides detailed information on Reiki, Reiki Symbol, Healing Reiki, Master Reiki and more. Reiki is affiliated with Mobile Computing Innovations. Perhaps no city in America is better known for its weddings, from the most glamorous to the tackiest. The fact is that Las Vegas has long been known as a wedding town, so it should come as no surprise that Las Vegas destination weddings have been on the rise. Las Vegas Wedding Options Of course the type of wedding can make all the difference in the world. Rather, those couples are more informed about their options. For those unfamiliar with Las Vegas destination weddings it is important to know that the casino chapel has come a long way, and many of the wedding chapels in Las Vegas rival the best found anywhere in the world. While it is still possible to get married at one of those, drive through wedding chapels, todays brides and grooms have far more choices when it comes to planning the perfect wedding. Planning Your Wedding In Las Vegas If you are interested in planning a destination wedding in Las Vegas, a good place to start is contacting the hotel where you plan to stay. Many of the better hotels on the strip have excellent wedding planning facilities, and they have become quite adept at planning Las Vegas destination weddings, whether you plan to marry in the hotels chapel or the finest church in town. In addition, the employees of those fine hotels are likely to have the best information on where to get the best flowers, the best food and the best drinks for the wedding. This type of local connection can be a big plus when it comes to planning a successful destination wedding. Drivers Ignoring The Ban On Mobiles While Driving

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Tosif_Patel]Tosif Patel Although the recently introduced laws outlawing the use of mobile phones while driving were hailed as a life saving measure, the impact on drivers has not been what it should be. Recent reports have shown that the majority of drivers are ignoring the ban, putting both themselves and innocent bystanders at risk. This is not just a UK problem, with surveys worldwide indicating a lack of respect for the new laws. So what next? It seems inevitable that the UK government will further crack down on the use of mobiles while driving, with increased fines and the risk of imprisonment if involved in a major incident. On the spot fines and penalty points will continue, however the courts are set to be given tighter guidelines to punish offenders. It is widely reported that over 60% of drivers are flouting the laws, with the majority of incidents occurring in the male, under 25 age group. While the majority of drivers cautioned by the police have been talking on their mobiles, there has been a growing number of cautions for drivers texting while on the move! What are the consequences of using a mobile on the move? There are many well documented side effects of using a phone while driving, including amongst others, a reduced level of concentration, a lack of awareness of your surroundings and reduced control of the vehicle. These three elements together are a recipe for disaster, and have played a large part in many road accidents reported in the UK. Even though there are many so-called hands free products available, these devices have been shown to play a major part in road fatalities. Even if a drivers attention is distracted for one moment, there is the potential for disaster. While the government have acted to try and curb the use of mobiles while driving, the vast majority of drivers are of the opinion that they will not be caught. Unfortunately, the authorities have no option but to increase the penalties for drivers caught flouting the laws, with imprisonment a real possibility for those using a mobile and involved in any road incidents. Recent hard hitting advertising campaigns by the UK government seemed to have a short term effect, although this was short lived and drivers soon fell back into their old ways. Until the attitude of drivers changes, the mobile phone will continue to be a very dangerous weapon in the hands of a driver. Treasure Hunting - The Unusual Ways

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

By Steven Gillman When you think of treasure hunting, maybe gold coins and precious stones come to mind, but it doesn’t end there. You can start in your own attic to see what treasures you find. Then you can check out some of the more unusual ways to go treasure hunting. Diamonds In Parking Lots Temperature changes getting in and out of cars and buildings cause diamonds to come loose from their settings. Because of this, parking lots are one of the most common places diamondare lost. An older couple I read about became experts at telling the difference (from a distance!) between the sparkle of a diamond and bits of glass. Now they regularly take early morning walks in mall parking lots for a second income. Desert Treasure Hunting An old Native American we met at a hot spring in Arizona showed us how to find arrowheads and metates (used for grinding corn or mesquite beans) in the desert. They’re hundreds of years old. He sold one of his metates for $200 during a yard sale, but for non-Native Americans this may be illegal. Check with authorities on this one. Treasure In Vacuum Cleaner Dust In California a man took the shag carpet from an a old theater being remodeled, saving the owners the cost of disposal. During the thirties the theater was a place where the wealthy went. Like all of us, the wealthy lose things, but perhaps more valuable things. When he cut up and carefully shook out the old carpet , he found over $2,000 worth of precious stones, rings, and coins. Then, wondering what’s caught by vaccuum cleaners, the man arranged to take the full cleaner bags from several cleaning companies each week. They save disposal costs, and he regularly finds coins and small jewelry when he digs through the dirt. Natural Treasures My wife and I have sold sea shells we collected from Florida beaches, giant pine cones from California, and rocks we collected all over the country. We sold them at flea markets and craft shows, as is, or made into something crafty. I once met a man who sold “burls” (unusual growths on trees) for as much as $200 each. Treasure Hunting In The Garbage Our city collects large junk for free during a week each spring. We see good bicycles, furniture, games, toys, chairs, and more, in front of almost every house. Several people come with trucks and trailers to pick out things to sell at flea markets or auctions. It’s a regular source of income for some of them. I’m sure this happens in other cities too. Treasures In The River Both kids and criminals throw things off of bridges routinely. It’s a quick way to get rid of evidence. As a child I saw bicycles in rivers several times. I read about a man that makes a living using magnets and other tools to retrieve guns, money, and other things of value from the bottom of murky rivers, near bridges. These are just a few of the ways to go treasure hunting. Will you make much money? Maybe, but probably not. I can tell you though, that it is a thrill to hear the metal detector start beeping, even if I do only find a quarter in the sand. Steve Gillman has been studying every aspect of money for thirty years. You can find more treasure hunting ideas, and more interesting and useful information on his website; http://www.UnusualWaysToMakeMoney.com Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Steven_Gillman http://EzineArticles.com/?Treasure-Hunting—The-Unusual-Ways&id=57472 buy cheap online xanax online generic xanax without prescription xanax without a prescription ordering xanax online

An Introduction to Bach Flower Essences Part II - The Seven Helpers

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

By Misty Cech The 12-7-19 Method of Bach Flower Classification Dr. Edward Bach, developer of flower essence therapy, classified the original 38 essences he used in his practice according to the 12-7-19 method: the Twelve Healers, the Seven Helpers, and the Second Nineteen. In part I of this series, the Twelve Healer flower essences were reviewed, along with the underlying theory of flower essence therapy here well have a look at the rhymes and reasons of the Seven Helpers. Dr. Bach prescribed one or more of the Seven Helper essences to patients who did not seem to be responding sufficiently to therapy with one of the Twelve Healers. The Twelve Healer flower essences Impatiens, Gentian, Mimulus, Clematis, Agrimony, Chicory, Vervain, Centaury, Scleranthus, Water Violet, Rock Rose, and Cerato were developed by Dr. Bach to address what he saw as the imbalances of the twelve archetypal personality types. It is through the vibrational transformation of these imbalances that healing of overlying disease states can, in many cases, be initiated. However, Dr. Bach found there were individuals that did not respond to flower essence therapy with the Twelve Healers; this lead him to the discovery of the Seven Helpers. The purpose of the Seven Helpers is to address chronically ingrained negative vibrational patterns which may be obscuring the primary personality type. For example, Olive, one of the Seven Helper flower essences, is prescribed for states of exhaustion, where one has been worn out by the struggle of healing or other life event. In this case, it may be difficult to see what the primary personality type of the individual may be, as true fatigue does not let a whole lot else show through - this real weariness may mask other personality traits or patterns. Or it may be that the chronic state simply prevents progress on the healing path that could otherwise take place. Again, using Olive essence as an example An individual may clearly be in need of one of the Twelve Healers. Perhaps they live in fear and are in need of Mimulus, and clearing this fear would allow them to heal. However, their fatigue is so great as they do not have the strength to work with these issues in this case, it may be helpful to use Olive along with Mimulus to offer a more complete support from the flower essence therapy. The Seven Helper essences can certainly be administered individually as well, particularly if a specific flower essence is strongly indicated. Dr. Bach had also written that if an individual is not responding to other essences, Wild Oat (one of the Seven) may be used: If ever a case does not respond to treatment, give either Holly or Wild Oat, and it will be obvious which of the other remedies may be required. In all cases where the patient is of the active, intense type, give Holly. In patients who are of the weak, despondent type, give Wild Oat. Beyond the original works of Dr. Bach, the Flower Essence Repertory from Flower Essence Services offers descriptions of these seven essences beyond what a physician may see. FES broadens the application of the flowers to include their use for those needing change that may or may not be related to a health condition. This is an important point, as one may have tendencies they may wish to transform, but are at no serious risk. This application of flower essence is encouraged, for any support for personal and soul evolution is indeed invaluable. So within the following descriptions of the Seven Helper flower essences, a broad view will be maintained, so that the greatest audience may find a suitable essence. As always with flower essence therapy, in cases of illness, treatment is not a substitute for proper professional care. It may be the case that an illness may have emotional roots, and that flowers can be of help, but one should not solely rely on self-prescription of flower essences as a cure. And on to the descriptions The Seven Helpers: Olive As stated earlier, Olive flower essence is indicated where great fatigue has set in. An individual may be pale, worn out and / or exhausted after excessive worry, illness, grief or other struggle. The individual perhaps feels they do not have the strength to continue; that both their physical energy source has been spent. The Olive remedy allows one to tap into a new source of light, helping one see and feel a rejuvenation that comes from establishing (or re-establishing) a connection to a universal energy. This connection may provide the impetus needed for change in other areas, or may be transformative in and of itself through helping on realize that the etheric spirit body and the physical body are inseparable. Gorse This flower essence is used where one has lost will due to discouragement, becoming hopeless and resigned to ones condition. They have perhaps been giving too much energy to the negative possibilities, solidifying this outlook so no progress can be made. This remedy restores hope to such individuals, so they may be able to have a brighter outlook, perhaps more joy, when confronted with lifes challenges. Oak The remedy for those committed to over-striving, regardless if that striving is having a positive result. Those in need of the Oak flower essence have great determination and strength, which can be true assets. However, at times it is crucial to balance this force with subtlety and grace. The individual may have even become resigned to the inevitable failure of their endeavor or succumbing to an illness, yet they continue with their efforts. Oak helps restore a balance, allowing one the freedom of letting up or resting when that is in fact what is required. An important essence in todays hard-striving world. Vine For those who see their way as the right way or the only way, Vine essence allows an opening in ones perception for other points of view. An individual in need of Vine may have a domineering personality, insisting that everyone else follow their lead, including health professionals. Such a point of view can lead to great stress when it is perceived do not share the same ideas, and that harm, or at least lack of healing, may come about. Vine essence may soften this selfish nature, assisting one to understand that other points of view may be entirely valid, and in fact, more complete than ones own. This allows the individual to receive needed support, often a key component in any personal transformation. Heather The Heather type appear self-obsessed, talking continually about their own situations and problems. Such persons are in fact truly lonely and often in great emotional pain. They may feel an emptiness or hunger, which they feed from the attention of others. This flower essence helps one make a connection to the Higher Self, finding peace and solace in the unity of all being. This realization helps one overcome the loneliness and disconnection they may feel, drawing on emotional self-sufficiency and true shared relationship with others for assistance. Rock Water For those that are too hard on themselves. Being reflective and aware is one thing, to go so far as to limit ones (and ones friends and family) enjoyment of life is another. Flexibility and spontaneity are key components to the life well lived. Further, a rigidity in lifestyle can prevent one from finding joy, an important factor in healing from many illnesses. This essence is sometimes indicated for those beginning flower essence therapy or those who do not see results, as it may assist in opening the soul to the energies of the plant realm. Wild Oat Health and happiness are very much connected with ones ability to find ones true vocation. Wandering through life feeling a lack of purpose can lead to distressed states, with addictions or despondency being possible results. Wild Oat flower essence may help align one with their true calling, so that both the individual and the greater environment can benefit. When one finds this sense of meaning, there is a strong inner light that can shine forth, supporting ones own health, and the health of those around them. These are the Seven Helpers, as categorized per Dr. Edward Bachs 12-7-19 flower essence method. It is said that with the Twelve Healers and the Seven Helpers, one can support transformation of many vibrational/emotional states. At the same time, it is important to keep ones mind open to possibilities; there are a great number of researched flower essences available, ones that may be even more precisely applied to a particular situation. The Healer and Helper essences are however, a fantastic place to start if one is seeking an effective collection of remedies, suitable for the needs of many beings. Birthday Video - Turn Your Child’s Party Video Into A Fun Music Video

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

By Mike Dougherty Kid Birthday Party - Birthday Video Most people shoot some random video of their childs birthday party, then toss the video in a drawer and forget about it. Hey, were talking about some precious video of an important event in your childs life. So if youre going to shoot some video of your childs birthday party, why not turn that footage it into a video everyone will want to see? With just a little planning you can turn your childs birthday party video footage into a fun music video thats sure to become a treasured family keepsake and heirloom. Choose A Favorite Song Before you shoot your video, choose the song you want to use for your completed music video. It can be one of your childs favorites, or one that fits your party theme. Now you can shoot your video to go along with the music. Most songs are about 2 and a half minutes long which tells you how long your completed music video will be. 10 Things You Need To Shoot Putting up the decorations Party guests arriving Activities and crafts Party Games Bringing out the birthday cake Opening cards and gifts Finished decorations and balloons Parents, brothers, sisters, family members and pets Staged shots of your birthday child and guests being silly Guests saying good-by and leaving The birthday childs parents collapsing on a chair after the party. You may find other shots you want to include as well. Fun Camera Angles A series of short, fun shots will help make your music video more fun to watch. Try to make your shots at least 5 to 10 seconds in length, this will be very helpful when your footage is edited. Stay away from using the zoom lens. Unless a zoom is done very well it tends to look amateurish. Get lots of candid wide shots of your group. Then move in and shoot medium shots with 2 or 3 people together. Shoot close-ups of individual faces Have fun by shooting some shots that are tilted to one side or stand on a chair and shoot down on the party. Put the camera on the floor and shoot up. Editing Your Birthday Video - Music Video If you have video editing software in your computer, you first need to digitize (transfer) the footage youve shot into the editing program. Then lay down your music track (the song youve selected). Now start your music video with a simple but creative title like Marys 6th Birthday Party with a sub title related to your birthday theme like A Royal Celebration. From the title you might want to use a fun wipe into your first shot. Try to keep your shots about 5 seconds long. That will keep the music video moving nicely without being too fast and visually annoying. Also try to edit your footage together to tell the story of your party rather than just randomly mixing everything together. Titles within your music video can also be fun. A title leading into some party game footage might read Extreame Musical Chairs or Time To Pop The Balloons. As you edit your footage together, take a minute and preview the entire video from the beginning. This will help you to get a better feel for the overall pace. You might need to slow things down or speed then up. Check your video from the top when you have 30 seconds edited, 60 seconds edited and 90 seconds edited just to make sure the video is coming together the way you want it to. MRSA - What Is It?

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Michael_Russell] Michael Russell What does MRSA mean? MRSA stands for methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or multiple resistance Staphylococcus aureus. You may sometimes see it referred to as Golden Staph or just plain ‘Staph’. Staph is a microorganism commonly found on the body that occasionally causes infection. As a matter of fact, about 3 out of 10 people have MRSA bacteria living on their skin. Methicillin is an antibiotic that has been used to treat Staph. MRSA is a strain of Staph resistant to methicillin and some other antibiotics. It is therefore more difficult to treat than normal Staph. How can it affect me? Staph normally lives on the surface of the body without causing any problems. It is only a problem when, in open wounds and ulcers, it can cause infection. For example, S. aureus bacteria may sometimes get into the bloodstream and travel to various internal organs and cause infections like chest infection (pneumonia), bone infection (osteomyelitis), blood toxicity (septicemia), heart valve infection (endocarditis), etc. Prevention of infection rests mainly on encouraging good hand washing practices amongst staff, visitors and patients. Where on the body do Staphs live? Staphs normally live in the nose, arm pit and near the genital area (perineum). Do all people carry Staph? Most people carry Staph at least occasionally. This has nothing to do with personal hygiene, but seems to be a special property of our skin cells. People who are already in the hospital, who are very ill or have open wounds, sores or ulcers are more prone to carrying Staph and subsequently develop an infection from it. Having said that, MRSA is becoming more prevalent in people outside hospital, but much less common than hospitalized people. How do I know if I am carrying MRSA? Swabs can be taken from the areas where MRSA is usually found. How do I know if I am infected with MRSA? Again, a sample of swab as well as blood, urine, body fluid can be collected and sent for the pathology lab to be tested. If Staph is detected, further tests are done to determine which antibiotic will effectively kill the bacteria. If I am found to be carrying MRSA, is this dangerous and what can I do? Just having MRSA in your nose or on your skin is not dangerous. However, to stop it being transferred into wounds, it might be recommended that you have it treated. Does the swab detect other infections or organisms? The swabs are processed in such a way that only Staphs, including MRSA, can grow. If you or your doctor think you have an infection, you may need additional tests specifically for this. Can I get rid or MRSA if I am found to be carrying it? It may not be necessary, but if it is, topical treatments will be prescribed. Can MRSA be treated if it causes an infection? MRSA is no more infectious than other strains of S. aureus bacteria. While MRSA is a resistant bug, we still have a number of antibiotics which are effective. If antibiotic treatment is required, your doctors will discuss this with you. Can I get rid of MRSA by going out into the sun? Most organisms including MRSA live in areas of the body not normally exposed to the sun. If they are on the skin they live between tiny skin folds so are hidden from the sun. Can I have visitors? Yes, you can! Staff will discuss with you and your visitors any special requirements needed. You and your visitors should wash your hands when leaving your room. Try the $12,000 Diet

Sunday, October 21st, 2007

By Naweko San-Joyz Imagine winning $12,000 just for dropping twenty pounds. This isnt some new lottery. But according to research scientist Jay Zagorsky of the Ohio State Universitys Center for Human Resource Research, losing weight can pay off big time at the office. Zagorsky used data involving about 7,300 people who participated in the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth (NLSY). The same people are interviewed frequently, which gave Zagorsky a chance to see how the obesity levels and wealth of respondents changed over time. Zagorsky used data from 12 NLSY surveys conducted between 1985 and 2000. All the respondents were between 21 and 28 years old in 1985. Overall, the results showed that a one-unit increase in a young persons BMI was associated with a $1,300 or 8 percent reduction in wealth. Yet the changes varied dramatically by ethnicity and gender. For example, white women who dropped their body mass index score (BMI) a standard measure of obesity by 10 points saw a wealth increase of $11,880. White men saw an increase of $12,720 for a similar drop, while black women increased wealth by $4,480. Increases in BMI had no link with the wealth of Black men, and were associated with small negative changes in the wealth of white men. Increases in BMI were linked to medium negative changes in wealth for Black women and large negative changes for white women. If you really want to impact your wealth, you have to move from overweight or obese into the normal range, Zagorsky advised. You cant just drop 5 or 10 pounds and change your wealth.Zagorskys study appears in the journal Economics and Human Biology. If want to get started on the fast track to weight loss, and inch your way closer to that $12,000, try these six steps: Step 1: Double up on your aerobics. Instead of 30 minutes per day, exercise for 45-60minutes. Step 2: Go to bed the same time every night before 11pm. Normalizing your sleep pattern helps normalize your melatonin levels, which help you burn fat. Step 3: Wake up 30 minutes earlier to fit in the extra aerobics Step 4: Eat you last meal by 6:30pm. Eating this way gives your body all night to burn of your meal. Also, eating early prevents your body from having to digest food all night which could disturb your sleep. Step 5: Eat more frequently, 6-8 times a day. Frequent eating helps ramp up your metabolism and but fat more efficiently. Step 6: Stay confident and trust that your efforts will pay off. This way, you wont end up yo-yo dieting. Ever get the feeling that youre missing out on some really useful health news? Like, someones keeping a mega-helpful beauty secret from you.
